NFL Approves Vegas Resort Ads

There’s a slight thaw in the longtime icy relationship between Las Vegas and the National Football League. The “Las Vegas Sun” reports the NFL has revised its advertising guidelines to lift a ban on advertising by Las Vegas resorts during league telecasts. But restrictions remain. Under the new policy, Vegas hotels can promote their shopping venues, restaurants, golf courses, and entertainment headliners. But the league continues its ban on any references to gambling, which also means no wide camera shots of the Las Vegas Strip or scenes of casino action. In addition, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority still cannot use its famous “what happens here, stays here” slogan. The NFL says the tagline suggests “inappropriate activity.” Back in 2003, the NFL drew the ire of Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman when it denied a multi-million dollar ad by the city’s convention and visitors authority during the Super Bowl.
